Gearbox Type: 1-Speed Automatic
Like most modern EVs, the MG S5 uses a single-speed reduction gear transmission. This eliminates the need for shifting, providing a seamless and linear power delivery from standstill to top speed. The system is controlled via a rotary gear selector on the center console.
Drive Type: Rear Wheel Drive (RWD)
Shifting from the FWD layout of the previous ZS EV, the S5 utilizes a Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) configuration thanks to the MSP platform. This setup improves traction during acceleration and allows for a 50:50 weight distribution, which significantly enhances the vehicle's handling and steering feel.
