Engine Displacement: 2,999 cc (Petrol) / 2,989 cc (Diesel)
The GLS is powered by sophisticated 3.0-litre inline-six engines. The GLS 450 petrol produces 381 bhp and 500 Nm, while the GLS 450d diesel delivers 367 bhp and a massive 750 Nm of torque. Both engines are integrated with a 48V Mild Hybrid system (ISG), which provides an additional boost of 20-22 bhp and up to 200 Nm for smoother starts and extra overtaking punch.
Configuration: 6 Cylinders / DOHC Valve Train
Both variants utilize an in-line 6-cylinder layout, which is inherently balanced for low vibration. They feature a Double Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) setup with 4 valves per cylinder. The petrol model uses Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) with a twin-scroll turbo, while the diesel utilizes Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDI) with a variable geometry turbocharger.
Acceleration and Speed: 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds
Despite its massive size, the GLS is remarkably quick. The GLS 450d can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds, while the petrol GLS 450 takes approximately 5.9 to 6.1 seconds. Both variants have an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
