To support long-distance expeditions, the GX 550 is equipped with an 80-litre fuel tank. While the V6 is more efficient than the old V8, the large tank is still necessary given the vehicle's aerodynamic profile and heavy-duty 4WD components.

The GX is available in multiple configurations. Luxury and Premium trims offer a 3-row, 7-passenger layout, while the adventure-focused Overtrail trims come as a 2-row, 5-passenger setup to maximize cargo space for camping gear and tools.
