Gearbox Type: Single-Speed Reduction Gear
The IONIQ 5 uses a single-speed reduction gear transmission. Unlike internal combustion engines, electric motors have a broad power band that eliminates the need for multiple gears. The system includes a shift-by-wire column-mounted rotary selector, which creates a more open and spacious front cabin layout.
Drive Type: RWD / HTRAC AWD
The vehicle is available in either Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) or HTRAC All-Wheel Drive (AWD). The AWD system features a Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) that can connect or disconnect the front motor depending on driving conditions to balance performance and efficiency.
