Engine Displacement: 149 cc
The BS6-compliant 149cc engine is an evolution of the V2 unit, now further refined to meet stricter emission norms. It remains an air-cooled, SOHC, 2-valve single-cylinder motor but has been retuned to deliver a more linear power delivery, specifically for urban "stop-and-go" traffic.
Max Power: 12.4 PS @ 7250 rpm
To comply with BS6 standards, the peak power has seen a slight drop to 12.4 PS (from the V2's 13.1 PS). However, Yamaha has tuned the ECU to ensure that the power is more accessible in the mid-range, making it feel just as responsive during overtakes.
Max Torque: 13.3 Nm @ 5500 rpm
Interestingly, the torque has increased to 13.3 Nm and peaks earlier at 5500 rpm. This makes the V3 exceptionally "punchy" at low speeds, allowing for effortless city riding without constant downshifting.
Gearbox: 5-speed Constant Mesh
The V3 continues with the reliable 5-speed manual gearbox. The shifts are crisp and positive, maintaining Yamaha's reputation for smooth transmissions, perfectly suited for the daily urban grind.
